JOB SUMMARY:  Responsible for QA/QI PCRs, sending information to the State and local hospitals, and maintaining up-to-date records through the State LMS system. Coordinates and implements educational services and opportunities for Emergency Services.  Responsible for ongoing assessment of educational needs of staff members and evaluation of the educational program.  Candidate will assess, plan, coordinate, implement, document, and evaluate education, orientation programs, and training activities to meet identified educational needs within the Emergency Services Department.  Responsible for coordinating EMT and paramedic clinicals and communications officers and emergency management personnel training and education with the various schools in the area.

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Coordinates and implements educational services and opportunities for Emergency Services Department.
  • Assesses, plans, coordinates, implements, documents, and evaluates education, orientation programs and training activities to meet identified educational needs within the Emergency Services Department.  Responsible for coordinating EMT and paramedic clinicals with the various schools in the area.
  • Responsible for coordinating EMT and paramedic clinicals and communications officers and emergency management personnel training and education with the various schools in the area.
  • Oversees training program (all aspects of Emergency Services).
  • Coordinates Protocols with Medical Director, Emergency Services Director, Emergency Services Assistant Director, and Supervisors.
  • Reviews and analyzes new equipment prior to purchase.
  • Coordinates with staff to ensure compliance with required certification.
  • Data manager and registrar for the service – QA/QI PCRs, send information to the State and local hospitals, maintain up-to-date records through the State LMS system.
  • Act as infection control officer – maintain work place safety standards, handle exposure incidents, maintain safety standards during an outbreak or pandemic
  • Pediatric emergency care coordinator
  • Maintain post-licensure skills of service paramedics, including blood administration and advanced transport ventilator

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY:  Only in absence of Supervisor.

SPECIAL TRAINING/SKILLS:  Must have excellent organization and strong interpersonal communication skills.  Must have good verbal communication skills.  Must have the ability to exercise tact and diplomacy when dealing with physicians, patients, and family members.  Must be able to work irregular schedules, weekends, and holidays due to staffing and call fluctuations.  Must be able to effectively motivate and supervise others.  Must be able to utilize initiative and independent action when required within the general framework of professional assignment.  Must be able to utilize good judgment in evaluating alternatives in unorthodox situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Must be able to see, hear, and orally communicate both in person and by phone, must have manual dexterity to use keyboard and to lift and turn patients, must be able to move about freely and access files.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:  Must possess the knowledge and skills to treat patients of all ages including: Infants (0-12 mos.), toddlers (1-3 yrs), preschool (3-6 yrs), school age (6-12 yrs), adolescents (12-21 yrs), adults (21-65 yrs), and geriatrics (65+ yrs). 

Skilled in the operation of a computer and programs, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, etc.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:  Potential exposure to hazardous chemicals, infectious diseases, and inclement weather.  This position will involve performing procedures or other job-related tasks that an inherent potential of contact with blood, body fluids, or other infectious materials as defined by OSHA to an individual’s skin or mucous membranes will occur.  The procedures or tasks could also result in spills or splashing on an individual’s skin or mucous membranes.  I understand that I must have a clear understanding of the proper use of protective attire and where this attire is maintained for use before performing any duties.  I will discuss this with my supervisor and review a detailed list of these tasks found in my department’s Policy and Procedure Manual.

OTHER:  Employee must be aware of and fully support the policies of the Emergency Services Department.  Must have demonstrated ability to deliver services to physicians, patients, and fellow employees with compassion and in a responsive, courteous, and concerned manner.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS:  Position reports to ES Director, ES Asst. Director

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of High School or equivalent. 
  • Must hold a Georgia Paramedic Certificate. 
  • Must be certified in Basic Life Support, as well as, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and must maintain certification. 
  • National Registry preferred. 
  • Instructor credentials preferred in ES related course.
  • Three years EMS clinical experience.

  1. Certifications
    • Paramedic
    • BLS Instructor
    • ACLS Instructor (18 months to obtain certification)
    • AEMT Instructor Coordinator
    • Basic Communications Officer (within reasonable amount of time approved by admin)
    • Basic Fire Fighter (preferred, not required)
    • GCIC certified
    • Basic disaster certified (taught by GEMA)
    • POST Instructor (preferred, not required)
    • Any other instructor certification requested by the Director, related to Emergency Services)
  2. Skills
    • Obtain and maintain knowledge of the operations of all equipment operated by Elbert County Emergency Services (EMS, Communication, EMA)
    • Must be able to demonstrate and instruct staff of the use of equipment.
  3. Duties
    • As outlined in staff paramedic job description.
    • Maintain training files.
    • Assist in supply inventory.
    • Assist in vehicle/equipment maintenance.
    • Prepares monthly/quarterly/annual reports as needed by the department.
    • Assist Director in coordinating the 1st Responder program (maintain related files).
    • Serves as Shift Supervisor/Paramedic as necessary.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  4. Schedule
    • Basic work schedule forty (40) hours per week (No overtime paid unless approved by Director).
    • Hours working over forty (40) will be paid in accordance with comp-time policy for Elbert County and Emergency Services Department.
    • Must be able to work flexible hours: eight (8), twelve (12), twenty-four (24) hour shifts may be required.
    • Schedule changes: frequencies of schedule changes with or without notice are very high.
    • Callback frequencies are very high. Work schedule may change without notice to accommodate work hours for the workweek.
    • Shift coverage may be required to offset vacation and sick time coverage to control financial costs for our department.
