Position: Full-Time Firefighter (AEMT) – Fire School Sponsored
Location: City of Decatur, Georgia
Salary: $50,856 - $53,435 annually
Sign-On Bonus: $3,000 Signing Incentive (Paid on First Check)
Schedule: Full-Time (24-Hour Shifts)
Reports To: Fire Officer

As a certified AEMT, the City of Decatur Fire Department will provide you with a paid opportunity to attend Fire School, where you will receive all the necessary training and certification to become a fully qualified firefighter. Upon completing Fire School, you’ll be ready to take on the full responsibilities of a firefighter, including emergency response, fire prevention, and providing medical care in both routine and emergency situations.

What You’ll Do

  • Receive full sponsorship for Fire School, where you will gain the skills and certifications to become a firefighter.
  • Once certified, respond to fires, medical calls, rescues, and other public safety incidents.
  • Participate in community outreach and fire safety education programs to reduce fire risks.
  • Engage in regular training to maintain readiness for fire and medical emergencies.
  • Ensure fire and emergency medical equipment is properly maintained and ready for action.
  • Complete all required documentation and reports after incidents.
  • Collaborate with a team of firefighters and emergency medical personnel to provide comprehensive service to the community.

Minimum Qualifications & Physical Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certified as an AEMT (Advanced Emergency Medical Technician)
  • Valid State of Georgia Driver’s License (Non-commercial Class A or B)
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy objects (51-100 lbs.)
  • Ability to work in challenging conditions, including smoke, heat, and physically demanding tasks
  • Ability to work 24-hour shifts as part of a team in a confined setting
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and the public
